GFB Art Contest illustrates diversity of GA agriculture

State Winner Boris Jones, Monroe Co.
Monroe County student Boris Jones was recently named the state winner of the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Annual Art Contest.

Casey Jones of Brooks County, 9th District, and Martina Kincesova of Chattooga County, 1st District, were named state runners-up in the art contest.

The Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee annually coordinates the contest in conjunction with county Farm Bureau Women’s Committees for the purpose of encouraging Georgia high school students to creatively explore Georgia agriculture. The contest is open to any student in 9th-12th grade.

Jones, the son of Clinton and Almitha Jones, received a $75 cash prize for being the top art contest winner from GFB’s 5th District and a $250 cash prize for being the state winner. He is a rising junior at Mary Persons High School.

Casey Jones and Kincesova each received a $150 cash prize as their state prize and $75 cash as their district prize. Casey, the son of Alan and Lynn Jones of Quitman, recently graduated from Brooks County High School. Kincescova, a Czechoslovakian exchange student hosted by Keith and Heather Abee, was a student at Chattooga High School at the time of the contest.

Contest winners were selected from each of the organization’s ten districts. Drawings were judged on artistic merit and how well the artwork represented Georgia agriculture.

Other district winners in the art contest were: Erin Wansley, Elbert County, 2nd District; Althea Jean Lewis, Carroll County, 3rd District; Brianna Brown, McDuffie County, 4th District; Shannon Snow, Washington County, 6th District; Christina Anderson, Bryan County, 7th District; Aimee Chun, Lee County, 8th District, and Kelly Rowell, Coffee County, 10th District.
