Pastry for two crusts

5 sour cooking apples (washed, peeled & sliced)

1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon lemon juice

6 tablespoons butter


Preheat oven to 425º.


Line a deep dish pie plate with one of the crusts.


Place apple slices in layers on the crust. 


Combine sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg and salt in small bowl. Sprinkle mixture over apples, then drizzle with lemon juice.


Cut butter into small pieces and evenly place over top of pie mixture.


Top with remaining crust, and make slits in the top of the crust.


Bake for 40 minutes or until apples are soft and crust is brown.
