Edward Harris, GFB Policyholder

“I get great value out of the GFB membership because I know what the funds are going to, that they're really, truly supporting the grassroots effort. On the local level, I see those funds coming back to our county budget, which allows us to put on several different programs, such as ag in the classroom, farm days for schools, books for the library, and different just community events that we give back to.”

Fouth Generation Farmer, Lifelong Farm Bureau Member

For Edward Harris, farming is more than a job—it’s a legacy. He is a fourth-generation farmer, and his daughter now represents the fifth. His great-grandfather started the family farm, his grandfather and father built on it, and Edward has carried it forward. Up until 1997, they ran a dairy farm before transitioning into the beef cattle and hay operation they run today.

Just as farming has been passed down through his family, so has his involvement with Georgia Farm Bureau. “I didn’t choose Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau chose me,” Edward explains. “My grandfather, father, and myself all sat on the local county board. I grew up attending meetings, conventions, and events from the time I was a little child.” Over the years, his county leaders saw potential in him and encouraged him to take on leadership roles. “They gave me responsibilities and just showed me the way. It was really nice to have that small community feel, where everybody pitched in and helped me grow.”

Edward says Georgia Farm Bureau values have shaped both his personal and professional life. “The hard working, the true ethics, the everyday handshake communication that we have is something I really value.” Through Farm Bureau, he has met farmers across Georgia and the country, forming relationships that have strengthened both his career and the industry he loves. “You may not see somebody but once or twice a year, but they still know your name and ask about your family.”

He also appreciates the programs that Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance makes possible. Membership funds support grassroots efforts like Ag in the Classroom, farm days for schools, and books for local libraries. They also back advocacy at the state and national level. Locally, Edward is passionate about the county livestock show—the oldest consecutive show in Georgia. His father showed there, he showed there, and now his daughter participates. “I’ve seen kids grow into great leaders, and all of them started by showing livestock and learning responsibility.”

Edward chooses Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance for the same reason that he is a passionate member of Georgia Farm Bureau - because they share his values and are committed to promoting the future of Georgia's agriculture industry.

For Edward, Farm Bureau is more than insurance. It represents community, leadership, and education. “Growing up in Georgia Farm Bureau instilled in me the pride of self, the pride of hard work, the pride of growing food for America," Edward said.
