GFB asks public to Give to Grow
Join the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture in helping Georgia public schools increase their efforts to educate students about agriculture and how their food is grown. On Dec. 3, Georgia Farm Bureau will participate in Georgia Gives Day on Giving Tuesday, a statewide and global day of giving. Aptly named “Give to Grow,” this fundraising and marketing campaign will begin in November and culminate on the first Tuesday in December.
Despite being our state’s largest industry and biggest economic contributor, students know very little about agriculture, where their food comes from or the farmers who make three meals a day possible. Agriculture-focused curriculum provides interactive and hands-on STEM activities, helps prepare students for the workforce and makes children more aware of how the world around them works.
Acknowledging the importance of ag education, the Georgia legislature passed the “Georgia Agricultural Education Act” in 2018. The law established a plan to pilot agriculture programs in elementary schools. Across the state, 26 schools have been selected to participate in the program. Students involved in the pilot will have opportunities to build on-campus gardens, interact with livestock and learn about agriculture in their area. While the bill encourages schools to establish ag curriculum, teachers still need financial support to get the programs off the ground.
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture is looking for businesses to sponsor giving challenges throughout the day on Dec. 3. Giving challenges are designed to motivate donors by offering incentives, such as a large donation, if a certain fundraising goal is met.
The giving challenges will be heavily promoted on Giving Tuesday and in the weeks leading up to it. Businesses will be promoted through various mediums including digital advertising, social media channels, videography and email marketing.
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture invites sponsors to be a part of the movement with a financial contribution. Giving sponsorships will not only directly help Georgia students, but will also encourage more individual donations and support across the state.
Sponsors receive promotion through Georgia Farm Bureau media, social media and email marketing. Sponsorships at the $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 levels unlock increasing levels of promotion.
