Georgia Farm Bureau members know better than most that agriculture touches nearly every part of our daily life, including the food on our tables and the health of our soil and water. All of us want to know what’s going on in agricultural research and innovation and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has created an accessible way for folks to do just that: our podcast, Cultivating Curiosity.

Cultivating Curiosity invites researchers, Extension professionals, alumni and so many others to share their perspective on the science that’s shaping today’s agricultural landscape through engaging conversations with our hosts Jordan Powers and Emily Cabrera. In a time when all of us are looking for a way to access information quickly and efficiently, Cultivating Curiosity gives you a new way to look at the research happening in CAES and how it connects to real-world challenges facing producers, landowners, and communities all over the state.

We’ve been creating this podcast since 2022, so there’s already plenty of content to listen to. Each episode features a conversation with a CAES faculty member or expert who studies topics like crop production, environmental stewardship, food systems, and consumer habits, so for Georgia Farm Bureau members, many of the topics will feel relevant to what you’re seeing each and every day. Episodes have explored issues like hurricane preparedness, helping producers think about how storms can impact crops, livestock and infrastructure. Others dive into emerging technologies such as controlled environment agriculture, where researchers are studying ways to grow crops more efficiently in greenhouses and indoor systems.

While our topics can vary widely, our goal is the same with each one: we want to translate scientific research into practical information that people can understand and use. The connection between research and real-world application is central to our mission in CAES, with faculty and scientists who work each and every day to bring research-based solutions to producers, families in Georgia. The podcast extends that outreach even further, giving listeners a direct line to the experts studying the challenges and opportunities shaping agriculture today.

Some of our most recent episodes cover why radon deserves your attention, how to get the most out of your cut flowers, an explanation of controlled environment agriculture, and even expert food safety tips on your Thanksgiving dinner.

As agriculture continues to evolve, staying connected to new ideas and research is more important than ever. Whether you’re interested in crop science, environmental sustainability or the future of food production, Cultivating Curiosity offers a window into the work happening at one of the nation’s leading agricultural colleges.

Listeners can find episodes of Cultivating Curiosity on major podcast platforms and through our website. To dive into topical and commodity-level podcasts, explore all of the podcasts produced by UGA Cooperative Extension experts.
