Georgia corn, cotton & oat acreage up in 2026

Georgia farmers intend to plant more acres in corn, cotton and oats in 2026 than they did in 2025, while other principal crops are expected to decline, according to the 2026 Prospective Plantings report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The report was released on March 31.
Land planted in cotton is predicted to have the largest increase, from 835,000 acres in 2025 to 900,000 acres in 2026, a gain of 8%.
Land planted in corn is expected to increase by 2%, from 550,000 acres in 2025 to 560,000 acres in 2026.
Oats are predicted to increase by 6% from 85,000 in 2025 to 90,000 in 2026.
Peanuts are expected to make the biggest changes, dropping from 920,000 acres in 2025 to 780,000 acres in 2026, a decline of 140,000 acres or 15%.
Harvested hay is expected to drop by 20,000 acres, or 4%, from 470,000 acres in 2025 to 450,000 in 2026.
Soybeans are forecast down by 10%, from 155,000 acres in 2025 to 140,000 acres in 2026, while winter wheat is predicted to diminish by 6%, from 165,000 acres in 2025 to 155,000 acres in 2026.
