Georgia corn, peach, pecan and tobacco growers approve assessments

Georgia corn, peach, pecan and tobacco growers voted to extend their respective marketing orders an additional three years, through 2029.
Under the renewed corn marketing order, the rate will remain at one cent ($0.01) per bushel assessment for growers. The three-year renewal was approved by an affirmative vote of nearly 84% of all ballots received and will become effective upon notification to the applicable producers. The corn referendum was held April 15 – May 15.
The Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Corn collects these funds to be used for education, promotion, and research critical areas affecting corn production in Georgia.
Under the renewed peach marketing order, the assessment rate will remain at ten cents ($0.10) per bushel and five cents ($0.05) per half bushel. The three-year renewal was approved by an affirmative vote of nearly 70% of all ballots received and will become effective upon notification to the applicable producers. The peach referendum was held April 1-30.
The Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Peaches collects these funds to be used for education, promotion, and research on critical areas affecting peach production in Georgia.
Under the renewed pecan marketing order, the assessment rate will remain at $0.01 cent per pound for pecan growers having 30 acres or more, with an average of 13 trees per acre. The three-year renewal was approved by an affirmative vote of nearly 84% of all ballots received. The pecan referendum was held April 1-30. The renewal will become effective upon notification to the applicable producers.
The Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Pecans collects these funds to be used for education, promotion, and research on critical areas affecting pecan production in Georgia.
Under the renewed tobacco marketing order, the assessment rate will remain at $0.50 per hundred pounds. The measure passed with strong support, receiving 96.4% approval of all ballots cast. The referendum was held March 1-30. The renewal will take effect upon notification to applicable producers and will remain in place through 2029.
Funds generated through the assessment are collected by the Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Tobacco and are used to support education, promotion, and research initiatives addressing key issues impacting tobacco production across Georgia.
Marketing orders are reviewed and voted on by producers every three years to ensure continued alignment with industry needs and sustained support for the Commission’s programs and mission.
