Using Pesticides Wisely training schedule announced

Posted on Mar 11, 2026 at 13:42 PM

In early February, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced updated federal protections for over-the-top (OTT) dicamba applications on dicamba-tolerant cotton and soybeans for the next two growing seasons. These changes include additional application requirements and safeguards to address off-target movement and environmental concerns.

To comply with these federal label changes, Georgia applicators who plan to apply these products are required to complete state-specific dicamba training, conducted in collaboration with the University of Georgia Extension and GDA, before they make any OTT dicamba applications in 2026.

The training sessions began on March 4. The remaining schedule and further details for the required Georgia dicamba training are provided below.

Georgia State Specific Dicamba Training

As mandated by federal labels, all applicators must hold a private or commercial pesticide applicator license to purchase and apply the restricted-use herbicides Engenia, Stryax, and Tavium.

Prior to applying these products in Georgia during 2026, applicators must complete the state-specific 2026 UPW classroom training with locations provided below. Online training WILL NOT be available.

Some key points about the training:

• Those needing pesticide credits but not applying Engenia, Stryax, or Tavium are welcome to attend.

• Bring your pesticide license; 2 hours of pesticide credits for private or commercial will be provided.

• The meeting will last about 1.5 hours; NO beverages or meals will be provided.

• Attendees’ names will be placed on a list posted to the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s auxin website at https://agr.georgia.gov/dicamba.

Topics discussed will include: pesticide applicator safety, new dicamba label changes, required recordkeeping/ documentation when applying these herbicides, and fulfilling the new Endangered Species Act (ESA) requirements, along with other valuable information.
