Georgia Farm Bureau is led by a board of farmers who are elected to their positions by other farmers across the state. This includes the position of Georgia Farm Bureau president, which is elected by members every two years.
Georgia Farm Bureau is proud to announce Tom McCall as its new President.
Tom McCall is a grain and livestock farmer and former State Representative from Elbert County, Georgia. He has been farming since 1976.
He first served Georgia Farm Bureau in 1982 when he and his wife, Jane were state Young Farmer and Rancher Chairs. He then won a seat on the GFB Board of Directors (1984 – 1996) representing the organization’s 2nd District.
Mr. McCall served in the Georgia House of Representatives starting in 1994. He was proud to carry on his family's history of public service by representing Elbert and Lincoln counties and portions of Madison, Wilkes and Columbia counties. McCall continued a family tradition that dates back more than 75 years. His grandfather, Thomas Francis “Bud” Kelley, served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1933 – 1937 and served in the Georgia Senate from 1939 –1941.
He retired at the conclusion of the 2020 session as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee and after serving on the Natural Resources and Environment, Transportation and Game, Fish and Parks committees.
In recognition of his long record of service, McCall received numerous achievement and distinguished service awards from various groups for his dedication to agriculture and natural resources. He recently was given the National Honorary American Future Farmers of America Degree.
Mr. McCall graduated from Elbert County High School and went on to achieve an Agriculture Degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) and later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy with a focus in Animal Science from the University of Georgia.
McCall and his wife, Jane, are the proud parents of three children: Bud, Al and Katie. Their son, Al, is married to Rachel, and they have two sons named Winn and Wilkes. Their daughter, Katie, studied Early Childhood Education with an emphasis on Special Education, leading her to begin the Friends Helping Friends organization in honor of her brother Bud’s memory, who sadly passed away in 2000. She is married to Bristol Archer and teaches PE at Elbert County Elementary. Jane is a retired kindergarten teacher. While Mr. McCall is gratified by the success he has enjoyed in his farming and political endeavors, his greatest joy is in his family.

Gerald Long is a diversified farmer from Decatur County, Georgia. He raises cattle and grows peanuts, vegetables, corn, cotton, hay, small grains and timber with his family on their farm near Bainbridge.
He was first elected to the Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors in December 1999 as a GFB 9th District director, representing 14 counties in Southwest Georgia. In 2006, voting delegates in the organization's South Region elected him South Georgia vice president. GFB voting delegates statewide designated Long to serve as GFB 1st vice president each year since 2008.
In January 2016, he was named president of Georgia Farm Bureau when his predecessor, Zippy Duvall, was elected president of the American Farm Bureau Federation.
A Farm Bureau member since 1970, Long currently serves on the Decatur County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as secretary/treasurer and is a past president and vice president of the Decatur County Farm Bureau.
Long and his wife, Janice, have three adult children and two grandchildren, and are members of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge.
In addition to his Farm Bureau leadership, Long is a member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association and serves on the board of the Decatur County Cattlemen’s Association. He represents GFB on the Georgia Beef Board and serves as treasurer of the board.
Long was a founding board member of both the Georgia Peanut Producers and the Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association, and the Flint River Water Planning Policy Center. He also serves on the Decatur County Industrial Development Authority. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College where he majored in crop science and animal science. He then served six months of active duty in the Georgia Army National Guard and six years of reserve duty.
